Art Deco bronze by Ludwif Eisenberger of man in a loin cloth with a rapier.

Art Deco bronze by Ludwif Eisenberger of man in a loin cloth with a rapier.
Fine early 20th century Art deco period bronze of a fencer holding and bending his rapier. The well modelled figure is naked except for a loincloth and he is seen looking down and flexing the blade of his rapier. Ludwig Eisenberger was a German artist who is known to have been active between about 1895 and 1930. This piece clearly comes from his later period as can be seen from the lovely shaped marble base that has all the hallmarks of the Art Deco period. Throughout his career he had a fascination for depicting athletes, a common theme in the first decades of the 20th century in Germany. Signed in the bronze L. Eisenberger and Made in Germany. German circa 1930. 10 inches high by 5 inches wide by 2.5 inches deep ( 25 cms by 12.5 cms by 6.25 cms).
