A good and attractive early 20th century solid silver singing bird box by the well known German maker Griesbaum. The silver case decorated with a hatched design and with swags of be-ribboned flowers and musical trophies. Birds within cartouches on each side and the lid of the box with a large musical trophy. The back of the box has a hinged compartment for either keeping the key within or for snuff. Attractive grill and a well feathered bird. The box with silver marks. On pressing the operating lever, which is in the shape of a bird, to the right the lid opens and the full bodied bird pops through the grille & begins singing. It has a moving beak, the bird turns, flaps his wings and tail and after his performance pops down through the grille & the lid lowers. The singing bird box has its original outer case and its original key in the shape of a bird. 4 inches wide by 1.75 inches high by 2.5 inches deep ( 10 cms by 4.5 cms by 6.25 cms)
