Antique desk compendium in gilt bronze of clock, barometer, thermometer and compass.
French made and dating from the end of the 19th century this elegant compendium was made specifically for the English market as all text is in English .
The clock is on the left hand side with fine enamel dial with blue Roma hour numerals and blued steel hands.
The going barrel movement of eight day duration with original platform lever escapement.
The barometer to the right, again with blue numerals on enamel with counterbalanced blued steel hand.
Both dials sit within a fine matt gilt mask.
Between the dials sits the thermometer with farenheit guage.
The compass is set on the top of the case, beautifully silvered and engraved. The matching window to the left allows you to see the lever escapement working.
The whole is surmounted by an attractive and elegant swing carrying handle.
Although the compendium is unsigned the backplate of the clock movement has a lion stamped on it. This is the symbol of a fine and prolific French carriage clock maker by the name of Albert Villon of Saint Nicholas, France, who established his shop in 1867.
