Antique singing bird box in silver and plum coloured guilloche enamel # 771 probably Marguerat
Very smart singing bird box in silver and plum coloured guilloche enamel.
Superb enamel and a most unusual and very pretty colour. Gilt engine turnd lid and engine turned base. Set on four silver cone feet.
On sliding the operating lever the lid opens and the full bodied bird pops through the grille & begins singing. It has a moving beak, the bird turns, flaps his wings and tail and after his performance pops down through the grille & the lid lowers.
The box has a most unusual movement and looks like a Marguerat movement from about 1910.
Both the movement and case are numbered 771. For a similar movement see Bailly "Flights of Fancy" pp369.
