A French bronze and ormolu Charles X period mantel clock with fine original ormolu. The dial set in a frame of wheat sheafs, with a cupid cresting lighting one flaming torch ( of love) from another.
The clock is flanked by romantic figures of a harvester and a girl with doves. The pedimented base with canted corners, applied with appliques of torches of love and a large applied mount to the centre of the base of two hoes crossed together with wreaths and ribbons.
The ormolu bracket feet are unusually decorated with neo-classical panels of women and children.
Fine gilt dial with blued steel hands of Breguet moon form. Surrounded by an exceptional ormolu foliate bezel.
8 day silk suspension movement striking the hours and halves on a cast bell by means of the countwheel system.
