Antique French ormolu mantel clock of Charles X period of a kneeling Cupid.
Antique French ormolu mantel clock of Charles X period of a kneeling Cupid on a rectangular base. Set upon rectangular bracket feet and on a rectangular base with a moulding of leaf decoration. Above this and below the dial is a figure of Venus in high relief. Set upon the top of the clock is the figure of the kneeling winged Cupid in a tunic and holding bow and arrow. To his right a quiver of arrows and the torch of everlasting love and to his left a rose. The dial is surrounded by an ormolu bezel of berribonned flowers. To the top spandrel corners are butterflies. The dial itself is gilt and decorated with engine turning. The hands are of blued steel and of Breguet moon form. The dial is signed but the signature is now indistinct. The movement is a fine 8 day silk suspension movement striking the hours and halves on a bell by means of a countwheel. The ormolu is entirely original. France with originall mainspring and dated 1823. 19.5 inches high by 9 inches wide and 5 inches deep (48.75 cm by 22.5 cms by 12.5 cm).
