A silver and enamel singing bird box by Griesbaum. This is his model number 7 which was always the most expensive and elaborate of his output.
An outstanding version of this beautiful singing bird model in mint condition and perfect working order.
The enamel painting to the top and the lid is outstanding. The work to the sides is also exceptional, a tour de force of the enamelers art with painted scenes and superb enamelling which includes irridescent enamel as well as painted and guilloche..
On sliding the operating lever the enamel lid opens and the full bodied bird pops through the grille & begins singing. It has a moving beak, the bird turns, flaps his wings and tail and after his performance pops down through the grille & the lid lowers.
Don't be fooled by modern late 20th and 21 st century copies in gilt bronze and poor painting with plastic gears. This is the real thing. Made in Germany it entered England in 1930 as its hallmarks in solid silver bear witness.
4 inches wide by 2.75 inches deep by 1.75 inches high ( 10 cms by 7 cms by 4.4 cms).
