Antique French Empire ormolu mantel clock celebrating wine and viticulture.
A lovely clock in original fire/mercury gilt ormolu with a lfine convex white enamel dial.
The clock on elaborate bun feet, stiff leaf and dart moulding to base and with applied ormolu mounts of baskets of plenty within wreaths, winged masks and seperated by flaming torches.
An applied mount below the dial is of a bacchante about to eat a bunch of grapes.
To the top of the clock is a fine pastille burner, to the left a figure of the winged cupid and to the right a large classical pitcher.
To the corners above the dial are ormolu mounts of grapes and vine leaves wile the most unusual ormolu bezel surrounding the dial. This is made up of a wavy line of alternate bunches of grapes and vine leaves, most apt for viticulture.
The movement is of 8 day duration, silk suspension regulated and strikes the hours and halves on a bell.
