Singing bird box silver with tortoiseshell panels and lid.

Singing bird box silver with tortoiseshell panels and lid.
An attractive German singing bird box with silver frame inset with panels of tortoiseshell and with a tortoiseshell lid. This very smart singing bird box has very high quality silverwork with the frame of the box decorated to the top with a leaf pattern. This pattern extends to the bezel surrounding the lid. The pattern for the sides of the frame change to a wavy line pattern while the side supports are a different variation again on the leaf pattern. There is a fine grill through which the bird appears and disapears. The slide which operates the box is cast in the form of a bird and is beautifully cast. The bird is very welldecorated in its original irridescent colours and he has an ivory beak. The box operates by pressing the silver bird slide to the right hand side of the box and the lid opens and the full bodied bird pops through the grille & begins singing. It has a moving ivory beak, the bird turns, flaps his wings and tail and after his performance pops down through the grille & the lid lowers. German circa 1920. 4 inches by 2.5 inches deep by 1.5 inches high ( 10cm by 8.75 cms by 3.75 cm)
