A fabulous antique French jewel casket in ormolu and enamel with five exceptional watercolours on ivory of members of the family and court of Louis XVth of France. Each painting is signed, the painting to the lid of Princess Victoria, one of the daughters of Louis XV is signed Drouais while all the others are signed with the initial D. The panels are as follows 1/ Front panel, Duchesse de Chartres born in 1753, her father was the grandson of Louis XIVth she married Louis-Philippe d'Orleans, duc de Chartres. 2/ Back panel. Princesse Henriette, a daughter of Louis XVth born in 1727 died in 1752 at the age of 24. 3/ Right hand panel. Adelaide of France, another daughter of Louis XV and Marie Leszcynska. Born in 1732, never married died in exile in 1800 and the last of Louis XVth's children to die. 4/Left hand panel. Marie-Josephe of Saxony born November 4, 1731. Daughter of Augustus III of Poland and Maria-Josepha von Habsburg, she married the Dauphin of France in 1747. Mother of three kings of France. Died March 13, 1767. 5/ Cover. Princess Victoir or Victoria Daughter of Louis XVth, born in 1733 and died, again in exile with Adelaide in 1799. French circa 1870. 9 inches wide by 6.4 inches deep by 6 inches high (22 cm by 16 cm by 14.5 cm).
