Antique tortoiseshell and gilt bronze circular snuff or patch box from the 18th century. The lid with superb automaton of an 18th century English hunter in a landscape holding his shotgun at rest. Moving a small catch to the edge of the bezel ( holding the original domed glass) makes the hunter move both arms and bring the shotgun to point of fire most realistically. Superbly painted and retaining wonderful vibrant colours. Some minor repairs. Circa 1780. 2.25 inches diameter by 1.5 inches high ( 6.25 cm by 3.75 cm).
