A fine quality antique musical box in the form of a miniature grand piano. Constructed of gilt bronze and hand painted Austrian enamel . The lid of the piano is painted with a scene of a troubadour serenading two young women in an idyllic landscape. The lifting lid over the piano keys is painted with a young lover playing his mandolin to his love in a classical landscape. When the lid covering the keys is lifted it reveals the enamel keys but also a further scene with two lovers sitting in the landscape with classical urns and a ruin The body of the piano and all other surfaces are of original gilt bronze and beuatifully engraved or has raised decoration. When the lid of the piano is lifted the music box plays and it stops when the lid is replaced. The movement is key wound from below.
