Antique bronze sculpture of "Pecheur" by Lavergne.

Antique bronze sculpture of
Antique two tone patinated bronze sculpture of a boy fishing and entitled "Pecheur" signed by the artist in the bronze and also on a brass plaque to the front giving the subject and the artist. The bronze shows a young boy concentrating intensly in putting a worm on a hook. He holds his rod inside his arms while he does it. The fine bronze even has the original line attached to the rod and the anglers hands. Standing on a jetty next to a bollard with ring and rope attached the boy is barefoot with his trousers rolled up above his knees and the sleeves of his open necked shirt rolled up. He wearsa straw hat at a jaunty anle on the back of his head. He really is a study in relaxed or laid back concentration. The patination of this bronze is very cleverly done in that the body tones of his face, chest, arms and legs is of a lighter and paler colour than the base and his clothes and hat. Signed in the bronze Lavergne for Adolphe Jean Lavergne who was born in Hautefort at the beginning of the 19th century. Studied under Jouffroy and exhibited at the salon from 1863 -1876 producing genre figures. France circa 1870. 14 inches high by 3.25 inches wide by 2.75 inches deep ( 35 cm by 8.125 cm by 6.875cm).
