German bronze of
A fine modernist bronze by the artist Carl Max Kruse ( 1855-1942). Kruse's model of Junge Liebe dates to 1897 and was originally carved in wood. It was exhibited at the Berlin Exhibition of 1898 and won a gold medal in Paris. It was edited in two sizes by Gladenbeck in both bronze and terracotta . This superb sculpture has much of the delicacy and simple form of the New Sculpture movement in England of the late 19th and early 20th century. This piece is signed " Max Kruse fec" and by the foundry "AKT.- GES. . H. GLADENBECK, BERLIN R" and numbered "No 69". 17 inches high by 11 inches wide by 11 inches deep ( 42.5 cm by 27.5 cm by 27.5 cm).
