Antique singing bird box in solid silver and blue guilloche enamel, the movement signed Salmon and with a fish motif. Very attractive silverwork with flowers and swirls against an engine turned background. Fine hand painted enamel lid of a scene of a woman walking along a path by a tree with Alpine houses close by, a waterfall in the background with mountains in the far distance. The bird, well and pleasingly feathered and having an ivory beak. The movement is key wound from the base and when the operating lever is pushed to the right the lid opens and the bird pops up and begins singing. At the same time he turns left and right and flaps his wings as well as opening and shutting his beak. Once his performance is over he pops back down and the lid closes over him ready to repeat the performance at will. Swiss circa 1910.
