An attractive and unusual solid silver singing bird box.
Set on silver ball feet the engine turned solid silver case has designs of horizontal lines that peak every few millimetres like a heart monitor to provide an amazing pattern that covers the top and sides of the case.
The case is covered to sides and top with applied silver swags of laurel leaf and forget-me-not flowers terminating in bows.
The rising lid of the box has a charming and unusual design of two winged putti, one with a bird in his hand and the other about to open a birdcage to release the bird.
The key wound movement is operated by sliding the lever at the front of the case to the right. The lid opens and the brightly feathered bird pops up and begins singing. He turns from left to right and flaps his wings and also opens and shuts his beak. When he has finished his performance he drops down beneath the beautifully pierced gilt bronze grille and the lid closes behing him, ready for his next performance.
Circa 1910 hallmarked silver 900 grade.
