Antique French Empire ormolu mantel clock of Roman with coins.
Antique French Empire ormolu mantel clock of some style. The clock is shown unrestored, but the case has now been cleaned and the movement and dial is currently under restoration. The ormolu is entirely original. The clock with bun feet under a rectangular base with stiff leaf moulding and three applied laurel leaf wreaths to the front of the base. A Roman General or Emperor stands to the right of the clock in a toga and holding what appear to be coins in his hand. His face is well modelled and he has a beard. On top of the clock is a classical helmet , with sword and wreath. Surrounding the silvered dial with blued steel moon hands is a fine ormolu bezel and in the spandrel corners around the dial are four winged motifs with lightning. The movement is an 8 day timepiece movement with silk suspended pendulum signed Cailly Aine. France circa 1820. 12.5 inches high ( 31.25 cm).
