Antique ormolu cassolettes of French Romantic period in the Gothic Revival style.
These cassolettes are both decorative and useful as they can be used as covered urns but also by turning the lids over they can be used as cndle holders.
The ormolu is original and the decoration is highly detailed and very well finished.
Set upon square bases the round socle is decorated with a fine leaf and dart moulding.
The cylindrical stem is silvered and has applied four sets of Gothic Reviaval tracery with Gothic arches and quatrefoils within diamond shaped cartouches. Flowing from the quatrefoil diamonds are floral cascades of the greatest detail. The applied ormolu mounts look superb against the silvered background.
The stem ends in a step before a reeded socle holds up the body of the cassolette which is reeded in the lower half and with two handles and to the central band is decoration of beading and guilloche with forget-me-not flowers within.
The body then flares out to a reeded lip.
The top of the lid is decorated with concentric circles of leaf and dart and guilloche decoration and terminates in a bud finial.
The candle sconce has laurel and guilloche decoration.
France circa 1830.
