Antique and attractive French Empire ormolu clock of a winged Nike. The clock with excellent original ormolstands upon four elaborately decorated bun feet. The rectangular two part base with stiff leaf moulding between has a large frieze in high relief to the front. The decoration is complicated with flaming altars, columns and swan handled tazza filled with fruit and flowers with swags of laurel and of roses hung between. . Smoke billows from the altars and butterflies land upon the swags of roses. The clock housing has applied ormolu mounts of trophies of love below the dial. Set on the top of the clock is an open jewel casket, a rose and a ewer. To one side is an elaborate mandolin while to the right is the figure of a Nike in classical dress with her hair up holding a lit oil lamp and a weaving bobbin in her other hand. The convex white enamel dial with blued steel hands of moon form and Roman hour numerals is surrounded by an ormolu bezel decorated with roses. The movement of 8 day duration striking the hours and halves on a bell is of an early form and is regulated by a silk suspended pendulum.
