Double singing bird box.
Antique and magnificent double singing bird box.
The large case made of Bois Durci is inlaid to the top of the case with shell in star and circle forms.
The box is wound from the side, rather than from below which is usual.
The movement is of large size and is of going barrel form.
When the movement is wound and the slide to the front of the case is pressed to the right the lid opens and the two brightly coloured birds pop up and begin to sing.
They sing to one another in turn, rotating, flapping their winds and moving their bone beaks.
Once they have stopped singing they pop down again, the grille closes over them and the lid falls.
The large oval lid is beautifully cast with birds and flowers and decorated in gold and silvered bronze.
This double singing bird box has its original outer case and is in excellent condition.
Probably French, circa 1890.
