These superb candlesticks date from the early 19th century but are in the Louis XVth style. Two young bacchanalian women naked except for a lion's pelt kneel on hexagonal bases each holding up a candle holder. Around the base a fine circular ring of acanthus leaf decoration. The drip pan and candle sconce are both decorated in celebration of the vine. The ormolu is original and fire or mercury gilded. French circa 1830-40. 9.5 inches high by 4 inch diameter at the base
