A most attractive French Empire library clock of a child sitting upon a stool reading.
The clock sits upon four beautifully decorated ormolu bun feet. The base is a ring of ormolu , again very beautifully decorated.
The main body of the clock is a patinated bronze reeded and truncated column.
The top of the column is an ormolu platform on which the curly headed child sits reading a book.
The dial is set into the column and is a beautifully decorated gilt bronze dial with engine turning. The hands are of blued steel and are of the Brguet moon form.
The movement is of 8 day duration striking the hours and halves on a bell. The timekeeping is regulated by a silk suspended pendulum.
