Rare French Directoire ormolu mantel clock of Josephine sitting in a bower

Rare French Directoire ormolu mantel clock of Josephine sitting in a bower
Extremely rare and unusual French Directoire clock of Josephine sitting in a bower. After a model by Deverberie. The arced case is bordered by finely cast laurel leafs, and surmounted by drapperies. The equisite casting on the case shows two reclining, classically dressed ladies, and two cupids, one playing the cup and ball game. Josephine, who is sitting in the bower, is surrounded by bronze enamel painted branches, and has a sea shell in hand, from which she is feeding the baby birds. The entirely original, fire, mercury gilded ormolu is of equisite quality and in virtually perfect condition. The clock is set on four fine ormolu toupee feet. The convex white enamel dial is surrounded by a fine ormolu bezel, whilst the gilt bronze hands are extremely well cast. The movement of 8 day duration regulated by silk suspension pendulum. The hours and halves are struck on a fine cast bell by means of the countwheel system. France, circa 1800. Height 45cm, Length 32 and a half cm, and depth is 19cm.
