A very good antique French Charles X mantel clock in patinated bronze and ormolu of Borne ( milestone) form. Original ormolu and patinated bronze in superb condition. Elaborately decorated clock from the fine and unusual ormolu bracket feet with cast foliate design, then the base with Anthemion design border with be-ribboned floral swags with Cupid figures and butterflies. Above a fine moulding of Anthemion and egg and dart pattern. Below the dial is a freize showing a winged figure in classical robe placing a laurel wreath on the head of Aristotle with incense burner and laurel branch, all enclosed by two beautifully decorated columns. The ormolu dial with applied numerals and inner circle decorated with forget-me-not flowers has unusually, asymetric winding holes and blued steel Breguet style moon hands. The dial is further surrounded by a fabulous cast ormolu circlet of forget-me-not flowers and fruit and foliage. Exceptional quality casting and gilding. 8 day silksuspension movement striking the hours and halves on a bell by means of the countwheel system of striking. 12.75 inches high by 6.75 inches wide and 3.4 inches deep ( 31.875 cm by 16.875 cm by 8.5 cm).
