Antique pair of George III English griffin candlesticks in ormolu, patinated bronze and white marble.
In the famous Chambers pattern these are a lovely pair of the most beautiful and most elegant of neo classical candlesticks.
Set on rectangular white marble bases ( with various minor nicks and chips), with an ormolu leaf and bead moulding. Further marble rectangle lifts the griffin which sits upon a bronze plate.
The patinated bronze griffin, beautifully modelled sits with head raised, wings open and crest up.
His tail becomes a gilt bronze swirl of acanthus.
On the griffin's head sits the finely tooled candlestick with concentric circles of beading, waves and shells. The drip pans below are of leaf formation.
English circa 1790.
