A fine early French Charles X ormolu mantel clock.
Set upon four ormolu reeded bun feet the vertical rectangular clock case is profusely decorated with applied ormolu mounts of cornucopia and flowers.
It is surmounted by a figure of Cupid who is holding a butterfly over a flame. He has his bow and quiver lying beside him. The iconography is a representation of fidelity in love.
The dial is annular and of convex white enamel with an engine turned centre and is surrounded by a magnificent ormolu floral bezel. The hands are of blued steel and are of the Breguet moon form.
The movement is of eight day duration, striking the hours and halves upon a bell and regulated by a silk suspended pendulum.
France circa 1818-22.
