Fine patinated bronze sculpture by Carl Kauba of a Red Indian chief entitled "Shot in the Eye". Beautifully detailed sculpture of a Red Indian chief in his traditional costume, smoking a pipe. The bronze is fully signed C. Kauba, titled in the bronze and with serial number and cast number, impressed Austria and foundry stamp. Carl Kauba Austrian 1865 -1922. Kauba was fascinated by the wild West and epecially by the Native Americans. There is some dispute as to whether or not he ever went to the USA. He was not fully appreciated in the USA until the middl of the 20th century, he is now recognised as a major sculptor of the genre. 7.25 inches high by 3.75 inches square at the marble base ( 18 cm by 9.375 cm).
