Antique French ormolu and silvered bronze jewelery casket.
A superb quality piece, the frame is of fine and original ormolu with delicate pierced decorative work surrounding the four panel frames.
The panels are of pierced and engraved silver gilt, beautifully decorated and set off against a green bronze plate behind.
Each panel is different, the front panel shows two cupids in flight holding a cartouche that could hold initials but has never been used.
The side panels have intricate pierced and engraved foliate decoration.
The back panel has an engraved loot and a musical score.
The panel to the lid has wonderful decoration of a country frolic, a celebration of some kind with figures in 18th century dress. A couple can be seen dancing while a man looks on. A woman is attending to another seated man looking the worse for wear while another plays what appears to be a sackbut while standing upon a barrel. A seventh man is busy behind a fence. The engraving and piercing is superb with great attention to detail.
A beautiful casket with what appears to be the original velvet lining and with key for the lock.
Almost certainly French and dating from the 1860's -80's.
7.25 inches wide by 4 inches deep and 4.5 inches high ( 18.125 cm by 10 cm by 11.25 cm).
