Antique museum quality Russian casket of impressive size. Dating from the end of the 18th century this is an extremely rare Russian ivory work box from the province of Archangel circa 1790-1800. Pierced and engraved with foliate scrolls and diaper trellis within beaded borders. The lid with circular roundel with central foliate boss framed by ribbon tied floral wreath and draped swags. All sides are intricately decorated and each has a central medallion with country scenes. The workbox retains many of the items that it once contained including two large bobbin stands that were hidden within the box itself. Russian, circa 1790-1800. 12.75 inches wide by 8.5 inches deep and 7 inches high ( 31.875 cm by 21.25 cm by 17.5 cm).
