A wonderful English tea caddy in the form of a barrel from the George III or early Regency period.
In untouched condition with all original ironwork intact.
The barrel is seen as a real barrel would look. The staves or long and shaped wooden fillets that form the barrel can clearly be seen and the hoops that hold the barrel are there too and are formed from the original soft iron.
So the original hinges, the lock, escutcheon, lock plate and the four hoops are all in place and in excellent condition and finely made by a real craftsman.
To the top of the barrel is the beautifuly made tap.
There are traces of the original tin lining.
English circa 1800.
5.5 inches high by 4 inches in diameter ( 13.75 cm by 10 cm).
