English Regency patinated bronze candlestick in the form of an eagle. Original early 19th century threads, weighted with lead under base for stability. Standing upon ball feet the square basewith fine acanthus moulding rising to the reede stand on which the eagle sits. Beautifully modelled and finished, enormous work put into the feathers by the graveur. He stands baiting with a viper in his beak, now missing. The candle sconce is set on his head and the sconce is decorated with a scale design. English circa 1810-15. 9 inches high by 4 inches square at the base ( 22.5 cm by 10 cm).
