Antique French Empire ormolu candelabra of very unusual form.

Antique French Empire ormolu candelabra of very unusual form.
Antique French Empire ormolu candelabra of very attractive and unusual form. These are a pair of fine quality ormolu candlesticks with a thin Greek Key pattern around the outside of the base with a burnished ormolu circle within and then a pattern of forget-me-not flowers and then a dome similarly patterned. The stem begins with a fine acanthus flower pattern, then a ring then for the remainder of the stem a very fine pattern of dots within diamonds between two layers of stiff leaf and dart pattern. Each candlestick has its original drip pan with a heavily milled edge. However each of the candlesticks can be turned into two branch candelabra by the insertion into the candleholder of an insert with the matching pattern to the drip pan. Connected to the insert is a gilt bronze bar with a carrying ring to the centre and two further candleholders, one at each end of the bar, each reeded and with twin patterns of rolling waves. Below the bar is a fine strengthening bar to each side again carrying the forget-me-not motif. France circa 1810-20. 12 inches high by 7.5 inches wide with a diameter at base of 4.75 inches ( 30 cm by 18.75 cm by 11.875 cm).
