Antique French Louis XVth style library mantel clock in ormolu, black marble and patinated bronze of woman reading.
A beautiful version of this classic 18th century clock that became a favourite for two centuries.
Very attracrive case with original ormolu and patinated bronze.
Set upon four elaborately decorated ormolu feet . The lower base of black marble and above this a large rectangular ormolu base superbly decorated with poincing and a pattern of flowers and circles. Above this the top moulding is of a wave form.
Above this another plate of black marble. The clock housing in ormolu with pillars and fine ormolu mounts of acanthus.
The patinated bronze woman in patinated bronze is sitting upon a stool, leaning against the clock housing and reading a book.
The movement is of eight day duration, steel suspended pendulum, striking the hours and halves on a bell by means of a countwheel. The movement is signed Cailleaux who is mentioned in Tardy.
Lovely white convex enamel dial with black Roman hour chapters and marked in Arabic numerals for every five minutes. Lovely gilt bronze hands.
The dial signed Deniere Ft de Bronzes A Paris.
