Fine antique patinated bronze bust of Augustus on glorious marble base. Very well modelled and cast this bronze has a beautifull deep rich patina. The bronze is beautifully finished and has a fine lustre. Superb specimen marble base. This lovely bronze came from the collection of the late Sir Frederick Ashton. Height 9.5 inches bt 5 inches wide and 5 inches deepp ( 23.75 cm by 12.5 cm by 12.5 cm). Augustus, first Roman Emperor, lived from 63 BC to 14 AD. Lowly born Gaius Octavius, he was adopted by Julius Caesar. Became first Emperor after dissolving the Second Triumvirate and precided over the Principate, subsequently becoming Emperor and presiding over the Pax Romana and the creation of the Roman Empire.
