Antique French Empire ormolu clock depicting the goddess Juno or Hera .
Juno is seen sitting on the top of the clock housing holding a wine cup to the Eagle sitting beside her. This iconography showing Juno offering wine to her husband and brother Jupiter in one of his many forms. He shows again in the fine applied mount of his bust below her feet and undr the wine jug on the left and right of the base.This clock is full of iconography, the lily, a flower associated with Juno is hanging out of the basket beside her. Below the dial is a berribonned mount of Dittany, another plant associated with her.
The lower base has a very fine applied ormolu mount of Jupiter's winged lightning bolts which as his wife Juno was able to hurl.Set upon four very fine quality toupee feet.
White convex enamel dial with pierced and gilded hands, Roman numerals for the hour chapters and Arabic numerals at the quarters. Surrounded by a fine ormolu bezel. Signed above 6 o'clock by Chopin a Paris.
8 day movement regulated by silk suspended pendulum striking the hours and halves on a cast bell using the countwheel system.
France circa 1810.
Dial signed Chopin a Paris, a fine maker who was working at the Rue aux Ours in 1806 and at Rue St-Martin by 1810.
