Antique Charles X patinated bronze and ormolu clock signed Pinedde a Poitiers.
A charming antique Charles X patinated bronze and ormolu clock signed Pinedde a Poitiers. Constructed of patinated bronze and original fine fire gilded ormolu and in superb original condition. The designer has made use of alternating layers of dark brown and gold to give a very striking effect. Set upon bracket feet of floral design the waisted case rises with layers of ormolu and patinated bronze. To the front of the case a fine applied ormolu mount ofof a beribboned swag of roses and forgett-me-nots. The dial and movement are held aloft by two beautifully cast, chased and gilded winged putti ssitting upon silken drapes. The dial is surrounded by a fine and unusual bezel of flowers, feathers and pearls with myrtle leaves and buds running over the top of the movement case. The fine silvered and engine turned dial with Roman hour chapters is signed Pinedde a Poitiers and the time is told by blued steel breguet style moon hands. The movement is an eight day bell striking movement, sounding the hours and halves on a fine cast bell by means of the countwheel system of striking. Timekeeping is regulated by a silk suspended pendulum. The movement is numbered 5996 and stamped B.P & E. France circa 1830. Pinedde is listed by Tardy as working in Poitiers in 1820. 18 inches high by 8.5 inches wide by 5 inches deep ( 45 cm by 21.25 cm by 12.5 cm).
