A fabulous quality antique English desk set comprising an inkwell, a paper knife and a seal. The inkwell is of engraved and gilt bronze with inserts of malachite and inset red jewels. Surrounding the inkwell base and the rectangular inkwell itself are 20 malachite intaglios of classical scenes and busts. The inkwell is set on a base of scrolling foliate gilt bronze with gilt bronze sea horses at each corner with cupid figures riding them. The base of the inkwell is set on four scrolling feet inset with jewels. The paper knife is of silver gilt, engraved and pierced and hallmarked. It has a jewelled guard of stones matching the inkwell and has a malachite hilt. The seal is also of silver gilt it has a fine bloodstone in the base with the motto engraved upon it. It has a rim with jewels and stand upon the rim are four silver gilt figures holding up the malachite handles, further decorated with bands of silver gilt inset with jewels. English, hallmarked for 1853. inkwell 12.5 inches wide, paper knife 11.25 inches long, 3.75 inch long seal.
