Antique French late 18th early 19th century fire gilt ormolu figure of Orpheus, standing playing a lyre. Orpheus stands leaning over slightly playing a beautiful classical lyre with fine sound hole, lovely engraving over the lyre which is surmounted by a representation of an oil lamp. The lyre stands on an ormolu pedestal set on a square base with applied ormolu lyre decoration. Orpheus with curly beard and laurel crown is in classical dress and wearing sandels. All set on a stepped rectangular ebonised base. All ormolu is completely original. France circa 1800. 12.5 inches high ( 31.25cm).
