A particularly good example of one of Guilmets light-house clocks.
Rests on a circular rouge marble base. Above this is a two tier stepped base outlined to simulate stone blocks and there are windows and a door depicted on it.
The mechanism which rotates the”light”on top is housed in and wound through this.
The column is in smaller block-work than the base and is shown with two “windows”. Above this is the rotating “light” surrounded by a gilded and fretted gallery.
To one side is a barometer and on the other an 8 day clock. At a point 90 degrees between them are thermometers, one centigrade and the other fahrenheit. Above these is a gilt dome with gilded finial and decorative gilded strips extending out to a ring.
To the top of the lighthouse is a weather vane.
French by Guilmet, Paris circa 1880.
