Antique English George III or Regency Ecrier with greyhound in white marble and patinated and gilt bronze.
Beautiful and rare ecrier retaining it's original fire/mercury gilding to applied mounts to front, back and sides, the chequered ormolu floor on which the dog lies and the four paw feet holding up the marble.
The dog lifts to reveal the three original cut glass inkwells.
The applied ormolu mounrs surrounding the ecrier are of superb quality. The mount on the front and back is of two seated and leashed greyhounds facing each other on either side of an acanthus flower with one foreleg raised. Their tails continue into Acanthus leaf and Amthemion. Very well cast, finished and gilded. The two side mounts equally well crafted are of a floral swag with ribbon terminals.
Original threads and nuts.
English. Circa 1800.
