Antique French Restoration period Ormolu Mantel clock on musical base by Butte. The figure of cupid beside the clock case can be seen with a pallette in one hand, and an arrow in another, pointing towards the two doves. Behind the doves, surmounting the clock is a fine classical urn, whilst to the other side of the case, is a wreath and cupids bow and quiver. The movement is an 8 day, silk suspension movement. Both backplate of movement and bezel numbered 1001. Backplate of movement is also signed 'Butte'. The dial is a wonderful gilt bronze dial, with lovely pattening, and roman numerals, whilst the hands are of blued steel and breguet moon form. Two tune, pull wind musical movement to base numbered 759. The plaque signed in script "Changer" and "Jouer. A fine glass dome covers the clock.
The ormolu is entirely original and is in extremely good condition. The two doves are seen again in the base of the clock case, and the theme of the clock is undoubtedly 'love'. This clock would likely have been given as a wedding present. France, circa 1820. With dome and base, height is 17 and a half inches, 10 inches in length and 5 inches deep. Without dome and base, height is 13 and a half inches.
