Antique French Empire miniature mantel clock of a dancing bacchante in ormolu
A lovely and rare model of the famous small mantel clock in original ormolu of the Dancing Bacchante or Maenad. The clock is set upon an oval base on four finely cast toupee feet. The oval base has applied ormolu mounts of a basket with thyrsae to each side. The Bacchante dances with her robes flowing, playing castanets and with a wine ewer and a drinking vessel at her feet. Convex white enamel dial with Roman numerals surrounded by a fine ormolu bezel. The silk suspension movement of 30 hour duration.. France circa 1810. 10 inches high by 5 inches wide and 3.5 inches deep
