A large and outstanding French Palais Royal music box and necessaire. The gilt bronze frame with floral decoration, and wonderfully detailed and finished scenes on each side of the case, the front depicting and a classically dressed man and woman. Standing on four extremely finely cast Egyptian style feet. The box has wonderfully engraved mother of pearl panels to the front, sides back and top, the tops panels featuring beautifully done roses. The lids are opened via a hidden button to the left hand side. Upon opening, the two original mirrors are revealed on the inside lids, and the contents comprising full necessaire in fitted lined compartmentalised interior. The very fine and early sectional comb movement signed by M. Bordier and numbered 8356 and comprises teeth in groups of four, plays two different airs, which is activated from below, and the tune also changed from below via a switch.
