A very attractive pair of Italian Grand Tour patinated bronze gladiators. One with sword and shield, the other also with a spear. Both with plumed helmetsand sandals. The shields decorated, one with a Medusa's head. Well muscled bodies. Superb original condition, all arms original, exceptionally high detail in the casting and finishing. Set on original matched Sienna marble bases. Inspiration for these taken from Jacques-Louis David's painting 'The intervention of the Sabine Women', which was painted in 1799 Italian circa 1860. 7 inches high by 4.5 inches wide.
