French Empire antique Ormolu mantel clock of Aurora in her Chariot pulled by her winged horses
Fine antique French Empire ormolu mantel clock of a chariot drawn by two winged horses carrying the chariot with a female figure. This superb clock represents Aurora being pulled through the sky by her winged horses or pegasus (this is also the greek goddess Eos). Aurora, or Eos, is the goddess of the dawn. The clock has all of the original traces for the horses and the original reins. Very fine casting throughout. The dial is set into the chariot wheel which has finely cast spokes. The convex enamel dial is annular and so reveals the front plate work of the movement. The movement is a silk suspension 8 day going and bell striking the hours and halves by means of a countwheel. The case is stamped in numerous places with the letter 'P' for the bronzier. A superb, and very rare model indeed. French circa 1810. 46cm High by 49cm Long and 16cm Deep
