A fine Napoleon III gilt bronze mantel clock depicting two putti's and two doves entwined atop the clock. The finely modelled putti's either side of the clock case, one with drinking cup in hand, the other wearing a hat. The two doves atop the clock symbolise love, and the clock would likely have been intended as a gift to celebrate a wedding. The clock has fine mounts of roses, flowers and fruit. The white enamel dial, with roman numerals, and gilt bronze hands, the 8 day movement strikes the halfs and hours on a bell with a countwheel, the steel suspension movement numbered on the backplate 7180 and stamped Japy Freres et Cie, Medaille D'Honneur. Set upon a gilt wood gesso base. French circa 1860-70
