Antique Miniature Champleve Carriage Clock by Drocourt
A very fine and rare miniature gilt and champleve enamel carriage clock by Drocourt. The gilt case, cannelee, the whole case including the pillars, base, sides top and handle decorated with blue, black and white champleve enamel stylized foliage. The dial with roman numerals and decorated with champleve enamel to match the case, and with blued steel spade hands. The 8 day, lever escapement movement, numbered 12120, which dates the clock to 1879-80 and stamped with Drocourts stamp, DG. Pierre & Alfred Drocourt were one of the top makers of carriage clocks in the mid to late Victorian period, having a factory at Saint-Nicolas-d’Ailermont in France, which was the most important town for carriage clock manufacture at the time. They also had premises in Paris at Rue Debelleyme 28 and Rue de Limoges. Alfred succeeded his father Pierre in the 1870s. 9.5cm High including handle.
