Swiss silver and blue guilloche enamel umbrella clock in a leather. It is unusual to find an umbrella clock with undamaged enamel. Superb quality enamel beautifully decorated in blue enamel over concentric wavy lined circles. The dark blue enamel sets off the roman numerals marking the hours in gilt, likewise the minute markers, and gilt again surrounding the inner dial, with the hands in gilt bronze. The reverse is superb too, with engine turning designs of concentric circles engraved in the silver covering the movement housing and basket weave to the edge. The handle is original and is used to wind the clock. Turning the handle anti clockwise winds the clock, and this movement features a superb Geneva mechanism, whereaby if the clock is wound too much, it releases the tension. A common problem with clocks is overwinding them and getting the spring tension stuck, so this superb mechanism stops that. If the handle is turned clockwise the handle comes off revealing a small wheel for setting the time. Numerous silver marks stamped onto the clock and handle. "Swiss made, Depose, numbered 2159, silver content mark 935, the star of David with S and H beside it, and the star mark for Swiss silver". Very fine four piece case lined with satin and velvet, which is almost a work of art in itself. Swiss circa 1925-30. 8.75cm diameter and 6.5cm High
