An exquisite silver gilt and full enamel singing bird box featuring the signs of the Zodiac by Tiffanys. This stunning box was one of only three singing bird boxes ever made for Tiffanys. In superb condition, retaining its gilding, the bird also sings beautifully. When wound and the bird-form start/stop button actuated, the lid opens and the bird appears, flapping both wings, bobbing tailfeather, opening and closing polished metal beak and turning whole body from side to side, all synchronised to the continuous birdsong. Note the finely engraved designs in the silver gilt borders surrounding the enamel. The underside of the box, stamped Tiffany & Co New York, and further stamped with Karl Griesbaum's mark, the famous German firm who made this stunning box. Circa 1920
