An exquisite sub miniature gilt bronze and Bassetaille enamel carriage clock, in its original travel case and original key. The superb enamel panels, on all five sides with wonder hand painted Egyptian themed motifs. Bassetaille enamel is a variation of champleve enamel, in which a low relief design is used, then the whole surface of the area is covered with a further layer of enamel, giving depth to the designs. The panels display various Egyptian themed designs including a sphinx, pyramids, obelisk, and a vulture. The travel case, still with its original key and signed in the purple satin in gilt 'A Golay-Leresche & Fils, Geneva, Rue de la Paix 2, Paris' a famous firm of Jewelers and watchmakers. Of absolutely tiny size, standing at 4.9cm high (not including handle). On the underside of the case is numbered 121 and stamped within a circle, G F with an anchor between, Golay Fils symbol. The movement is a very fine 8 day half plate movement with platform escapement, the fine white enamel dial with roman numerals. An incredibly rare clock. Swiss circa 1895.
